Really good to work with these people, who have re-opened a Royal British Legion Branch in Margate, with both monthly meetings, online training and in-house training. It's been a long process, but it's great to have the Branch Open again.

MBE - New Year's Honour

Pleased to congratulate Ben on his New Year's Honour of an MBE for services to the Startup Business Community, Excellence in Innovation and Enterprise. Ben started coding at just 11 years old, and at just 16 years old became the first person in the UK to employ himself as an apprentice of his own company, later helping changing the banking rules to become the first under-18 in the UK to open a business bank account. Later, he then exited the company at 18 following a multi-million-pound merger. Over the years, I’ve got to know Ben, and seen him support charities, and he has even advised the Government on the UK’s first Youth Entrepreneurship Review, consulted for GSK, and invested in tech companies.

I am so happy that he has received recognition for all the years of hard work and determination, trailblazing the way. Through him, many more teenagers can be inspired to not only dream of becoming their own boss, but actually do it. Hard work pays off, and I wanted to say well done young man!

After a long year, our Branch was formally authorised at the end of November (see previous post), but at the weekend we held our first monthly meeting, during which we took the oath to support the work we do for the @royalbritishlegion. Having the @margaterbl, back open is fantastic for the town.

Last night I was dual rolling both as Chairman of @margatescc Margate Sea Cadets & Royal Marine Cadets and Committee member of @margaterbl Royal British Legion, Margate Branch, attending the @margatemayor Mayor of Margate (@marg.atie Cllr. Katie Pope) Fundraising quiz at my old secondary school @hartsdownacademyofficial Hartsdown Academy Official, was a great night, everyone had fun, and all profits go to the Mayors Fund, which helps local organisations, groups and individuals. Its always great to support the Mayor and her team, supporting the town and wider community.

In just a few years since meeting @issey_carts and @mattmolotov, in Margate, these two have literally worked their ar*ses off, there passion for live performances is something worth seeing live, they are such an awesome band including there drummer, they have performed all over the uk, Europe and even America, so pleased they have management and a record label (@marshallrecords) looking after them, and now! They are joining @yungblud on the UK and Ireland stretch of his IDOLS World Tour! Genuinely talented band and nice people, I'd like to wish Issey and Matt from the @themolotovs and their team all the very best! Definitely a band to watch!!!!

Now in my second year as Chairman of the Unit Management Team of Margate Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets, over the last year, I have got to know an amazing bunch of both Cadets, Staff, some Parents, and my fellow committee members, through the year we have all worked incredibly hard, with hectic schedule, but its been an absolute honour and privilege to be apart of this amazingly brilliant team!.

At the weekend, we celebrated and awarded both Cadets and Staff at our Annual Awards/Prize Giving Ceremony Night. The event was full to capacity, and we had VIP Guests including Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Thanet, Mr Clive Stevens DL, who represented the Lord-Lieutenant of Kent. We had our Sea Cadets East Kent District Officer, Lt.Cdr. Robbins, and the Mayor of Margate, Katie Pope, attend, along with Guests, Parents and Friends of the Unit.

A huge thank you to Wellesley Haddon Dene School for allowing us to host our event and for all their continued help and support over the past year. Thanks also to Perry Pullman, who did the Lighting and Sound for the evening.

It was both an emotional and rewarding night, seeing the Cadets excel and receive their awards, a brilliant performance from our Band, as well as a musical interlude of song, such an amazing night.

Huge thanks to everyone who attended and those who helped make the night so special.

Back on Sat, Oct 20, 2012 @margatewintergardens had @professorgreen perform live in Margate!, It was such a great night, and saw a sold out show. Since then, ten years later the venue closed. Finally, a deal has been struck between TDC (Thanet District Council) and @thegranvilletheatre owners "Westwood One" to own the Wintergardens, and bring the venue back to life. The project is set to revitalise the Grade II listed building, which has been closed since August 2022.

This is hugely welcomed, and I really wish them all the very best of luck!

Last night we proudly held our Royal Naval Parade (RNP), where we were inspected by the Area Officer, Commander Grindle, District Officer Lieutenant Commander Robbins, Warrant Officer Smith and Captain Lewis. As Chairman of the Unit Management Team and Charity Trustee, now re-elected to my second term, this was a first RNP and although nervous, I trusted the loyalty, dedication, and had total confidence in the amazing team of fellow Committee, Staff, Cadets and Parents ability to work together, and do well on the night. Over the past 12 months we have all worked together as a team, and I'm incredibly proud of everyone involved.
